Selling now much harder

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Laws passed by the State Government now require a 56 question declaration to be completed BEFORE ANY Queensland property can be listed for sale.  Failure to complete the declaration would incur homeowners a $2000 fine.

Do you know the number of kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions your house released last year or even the number of kilowatt hours of electricity you used last year?  If not then you can’t list your house for sale.

The State Government’s “sustainability declaration” will spawn a whole new industry.  In many cases householders paying up to $500 for a consultant to complete the report just to go to a real estate office and list your property for sale.

I strongly support sustainability of housing and have made many of these changes to my own home however this sort of additional cost and red tape to me is extraordinary and indicative of a government with very little understanding of what happens in the real world.

Even an aged couple forced to sell their home to go into a nursing home or care situation will not be allowed to list their home until they have completed this mammoth form (even a deceased estate ill not be spared).
