Feral Deer Declared

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Sightings of feral deer are on the increase in our local area. Growing numbers of rusa deer in the Moggill/Brookfield/Pullenvale areas has prompted a review which has led to them now being declared a pest animal under State legislation.

This is a win for locals as feral deer have become an increasingly significant problem.

These pest animals have been known to cause significant damage to people’s property and gardens. They are becoming less intimidated by people (in fact people are becoming more intimidated and frightened by them) and they are sometimes themselves victims of motor vehicle accidents.

The new legislation means that residents who spot feral rusa deer on their land may now act to remove the pest animals.   Alternatively you may wish to contact the council who will send someone out to remove the deer.
