Residents urged to be fire ready

With the onset of an early summer season I urge local residents to be fire ready.
Unusually warm temperatures for this time of year, coupled with wet conditions late last year and early this year have led to a growth in vegetation which increases the risk of fire during this current dry spell.
In the wake of the devastating Victorian bushfires we cannot afford to be blasé and whilst the risk of a fire of this magnitude is very low it should never be discounted. Our local community is home to some of the largest tracks of vegetation in and around Brisbane and it is important local residents be as fire ready as possible.
Advice from authorities is that residents should clear bush and potential sources of fuel from around their homes.
A hose should be ready at all times. Guttering should be kept clear of any leaves or debris.
Bushfire and evacuation plans are worthwhile and are important in higher risk areas.
