New fire engine for Kenmore

I was delighted to attend the handover ceremony of a new state of the art fire appliance for the Kenmore Station.
Modern fire fighting is a very technical field.
This new Mercedes Atego costs over half a million dollars and as well as containing 1,500 litres of “low tech” water, it also contains tanks for ‘class a’ and ‘class b’ foam, class a foam being the most appropriate to use on threatening bush fires such as those we are concerned about in the local area. The appliance is also equipped to attend vehicle accidents with an array of equipment including cutters and spreaders to help people trapped in wrecked automobiles.
Interestingly for the local community, the Kenmore station responded to 89 emergency callouts during the first four months of the financial year and perhaps ironically, three of them on the morning of the handover of the new appliance.
The State government is proposing to move the Kenmore fire station to the corner of Pullenvale Road and Moggill Road next calendar year.
