Jet Noise Pollution without community consultation

Announcements that Brisbane’s residential western suburbs would be subjected to a huge increase in frequency and intensity of jet noise from Amberley has been done without any consultation or any consideration of the impact on these suburbs.
“Reports claim that the introduction of the “Super Hornet” aircraft to Amberley will result in a marked increase in noise levels and a dramatic increase in movements with an estimated 4648 movements a year when the new jet replaces the ageing F-111,” Dr Flegg said.“It is not acceptable for local residents to simply read this information in the newspaper without any warning, any public information or any public consultation.”
“Suburbs that may be affected including Pullenvale, Brookfield, Mount Coot-tha, The Gap and Ashgrove are quiet residential suburbs and contain much of the city of Brisbane’s remaining environmental space,” Dr Flegg said.
“Residents are entitled to be consulted before these decisions are made.” “I have written to the chief of the RAAF expressing the concern of local residents calling on the RAAF to meet with local residents with a view to giving us more information and considering whether there are alternatives or ways of reducing the impact.”
“Recent movements of Black Hawk helicopters over the Kenmore area caused considerable concern to local residents not to mention a great deal of noise but to be in permanent flight paths without being informed, consulted or alternatives considered really does not treat local residents with respect.” Dr Flegg said.
“I look forward to getting further information and encouraging the RAAF to consult properly with residents of these residential areas.” Dr Flegg said.
