Final Terms of Reference Released - WBTNI
Thursday, 01 November 2007 10:00
After months of pressure from residents in the community, the State Government has released the Terms of Reference for the Western Brisbane Transport Network Investigation, that may ultimately provide for the construction of the Western Brisbane Bypass.
I submitted very strongly that options other than through Brookfield, Pullenvale, Brisbane Forest Park and the Gap must be examined.
You can access a copy of the final Terms of Reference by: clicking here.
The cut-off date for submissions on the draft terms of reference closed after an unacceptably short period, which did not give residents the chance to put forward their views. My submission on the draft terms can be read by: clicking here.
I am pleased that the final Terms of Reference have adopted some of my submissions. I consider this a win for local residents. An outer route for the Western Brisbane Bypass through the Brisbane Valley will now be considered.
Despite the welcome inclusion of the favoured outer route, the State Government has continued to ignore my concerns and the concerns of thousands of residents, by also continuing to study the 'inner' route through Brookfield, The Gap and Brisbane Forest Park.
This is a vital issue to local residents and I have requested a meeting with the Minister to further explain our viewpoint.
The inner route would see the construction of a freeway, the size of the Gateway Motorway, thought these quiet residential areas.
