Tell Them What You Think of the Ipswich Motorway….
Thursday, 08 March 2007 10:00
The Federal Government this week released its decision in relation to the Goodna Bypass. I am bitterly disappointed that they announced the project that myself and so many local residents have fought so hard against. It is vitally important that residents still have their views heard on this matter. You can tell the Government what you think by voting here.

The project to build a bypass of the Ipswich Motorway through both Moggill and Prior’s Pocket will undoubtable affect local residents. It will particularly affect residents on or near the proposed alignment and I will be making vigorous representations on their behalf.
I am also very concerned that it will have a wider impact on all residents of the Moggill/Bellbowrie area.
The proposed road is a six lane interstate highway with the expectation it will carry a very high proportion of heavy vehicle traffic.
There are obvious noise, dust and environmental issues that I am particularly concerned about.
This is a decision of the Federal Government that I have opposed and lobbied against vigorously for the past four years and I have to say that I am very disappointed that this is the option that they have imposed on us.
A commitment has been given not to allow on or off ramps on the north side of the Brisbane River and I will be seeking to hold them to that commitment. Any additional traffic being introduced into the Western Suburbs road network would simply add to what is already an unacceptable and chaotic situation.
I will also be seeking an undertaking that Moggill Road will not be used for construction traffic. Pursuant to that I have written to the Federal Roads Minister, Mark Vaile and State Roads Minister, Paul Lucas, requesting that this undertaking be given on behalf of local residents.
I am very disappointed with this outcome and have fought and lobbied vigorously for years to convince the Federal Government not to go down this path.
I have the greatest sympathy and disappointment for those who will be directly affected.
I will continue to oppose the construction of this road as well as seeking to minimise the impact that this development will have on the local community should it proceed.
I will ensure that your feedback is given to both the State and Federal Government. Have your say by clicking here.
