State Government deceived residents over Goodna Bypass

Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt has officially put the Goodna Bypass on the State Government's agenda after having stood resolutely opposed to it last year.
The Government's startling backflip came in a letter from Minister Pitt to the Member for Moggill Bruce Flegg where he said that the Government would acquire additional properties necessary to build the project.
Minister Pitt wrote that "the corridor would be preserved for the future" and that the Government would engage in a "review of previous planning."
Dr Flegg said that the Government had deceived local residents by blatantly breaking the 'rock-solid' promise it made last year.
"The Parliamentary Secretary to the Transport Minister stood before Moggill/Bellbowrie residents at last year's community meeting with the promise that his Government would never support the Goodna bypass.
"Little more than twelve months later the Government has broken that promise and created a new wave of uncertainty for the beleaguered Moggill/Bellbowrie community.
"The Government used the issue as a political football to relentlessly attack the Howard Government last year before the Federal election - it seems now that secretly they were always in support of it," Dr Flegg said.
Dr Flegg said that Mr Pitt had refused to release any of the properties already acquired and that they would acquire more properties on the basis that they would be needed in future.
"The Government's plan to acquire all the necessary properties demonstrates that this proposal is now squarely within the State Government's sights,"
"I along with the majority of the Moggill community am outraged by the Government's deception.
"I will continue to stand-up for local residents in opposing this proposal to build a highway through a peaceful residential area.
"The Government should be absolutely ashamed of themselves," Dr Flegg concluded.
