Bus Service Response

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

The State Minister for Transport has responded to my call to the State Government to support the City Link Bus Service that runs from Ipswich, Karalee and Karana Downs and on to Indooroopilly Railway Station.

To read the Minister’s reply please click here

I do not consider this reply is acceptable.

The Karana Downs area in particular is a residential area not a low density and semi-rural residential area as indicated by the Minister.

It is clear that the Government have not considered the needs of this community.

It is particularly disappointing given that a much needed bus service which is being used, has been provided and could continue to function and serve the area with a modest amount of Government support.

This is an issue which I will continue to pursue.

The State Government give lip service to providing public transport as an alternative to get cars off busy and congested roads like Moggill Road and the Western Freeway but the level of action does not match the words.

With over 5,000 people in the Mt Crosby/Karana Downs area alone a reliable bus service will over time attract substantial patronage and result in a substantial reduction in the number of private car trips along our already inadequate roads.

As far as the issue in relation to education is concerned it looks like we will have to wait for a response.  However with the exclusion of the Mt Crosby, Karana Downs and Karalee area from the catchment of Kenmore State High School and the Government’s stated intention that residents should attend school in Ipswich it is unacceptable, not to mention uncaring, that the Government is not prepared to provide support for public transport that links the area to Ipswich.

School bus services are well and good however as every parent knows when children are at high school they frequently start before school and they frequently stay back for their important extra curricular activities of sport, music, debating and the like.

I think this is an important issue and I will continue to raise it.
