Kenmore Park and Ride is finally a goer

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

I am delighted to see road construction equipment on the site of the Kenmore park and ride on Moggill Road opposite Margaret Court.

I put this proposal forward to the Government in 2004.  The Department of Main Roads resumed properties for the widening of Moggill Road making the leftover land an ideal site for a dedicated park and ride facility.

Whilst I am pleased that after many years our official park and ride has finally become a reality, I believe it would have been best constructed in conjunction with the roadworks to minimise disruption.

People who do the right thing and use public transport deserve to have infrastructure to both safely and conveniently access that public transport.

Unlike other metropolitan areas where the aim is to have every house within 400 metres of public transport the sparse nature of our population means that if they are to use the bus many people will need to drive to it.

I met recently with new Transport Minister Rachel Nolan and put to her that work needed to start immediately on this project and I am pleased to see it finally happening.

At the same meeting I put to her the urgent need for this area to have additional park and ride facilities, in particular at Grandview Road and to also consider if there is a suitable location in the Moggill area.
