Mt Crosby bus excuse shown to be false

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Claims by the State Government that Karana Downs, Mt Crosby and Anstead would not get a bus service because of lack of patronage have been clearly demonstrated to be false.

The Brisbane City Council’s highly successful Personalised Public Transport service that provides taxi transport to link with the Bellbowrie bus has been strongly patronised and in fact is the most patronised service of this type.

Despite the limitations on how many people can be carried in a maxi-taxi during peak times this service has averaged over 280 passengers every week and has had up to 400 passengers a week.

So successful was the patronage that the Brisbane City Council extended the service to include Saturdays.

Residents of Karana Downs and surrounding areas would not be heartened to know that every Brisbane ratepayer currently contributes $384 into public transport not to mention a considerable amount paid in transport subsidy by taxpayers at the State level.

Local residents are getting zip for their money from the State Government’s Transklink agency which provides support for public transport even to communities only a fraction of the size of Karana Downs.

I will continue to push for this service.
