Government tries to explain why Local Residents received unsatisfactory water

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Recently an error in water quality resulted in heavy over-chlorination of water supplies to thousands of residents in our local area. Local residents received the unsatisfactory water supply when an error was made as part of the construction of the Southern Regional Water Pipeline.

I questioned the Minister in Parliament in relation to the issue as the Southern Regional Water Pipeline is part of the State Government’s water grid program. To read the Minister’s response please Click Here.

It is important that Ministers are held accountable for water quality and safety. In his response the Minister has indicated that as a result of this incident in our local area, new procedures have been required.

Our State is moving to the addition of recycled effluent water and fluoride to drinking supplies.

It is imperative to protect local residents that adequate safety measures are in place and that also additional layers of safety precautions exist to prevent any failure such as we have seen in this particular local episode. To provide reliably safe and acceptable water is a basic responsibility.
