Govt response on Colleges Crossing

My representation to the Main Roads Minister in relation to the growth in traffic over Colleges Crossing has drawn an interesting response I would like to share with you.
Safe connectivity for pedestrian and cycle traffic on such a busy State controlled road is always important. This is also an important issue for children attending Mt Crosby State School who live across the river.
The Government has supported the view I put forward on behalf of the community that Colleges Crossing needs to have a safe pedestrian and cycle facility.
Three options have been examined by the Government:-
Ø Narrowing the lanes to allow a pedestrian/cycle facility.
Ø Broadening the current bridge to allow the addition of ashared pedestrian/cycle section of the bridge.
Ø The addition of a separate bridge for pedestrian and cycle traffic.
I do not believe the narrowing of existing lanes would be sensible or safe.
It should be stressed the Government has NOT committed any funding at this stage but acknowledging this needs to be done is a step in the right direction.
The addition of a pedestrian/cycle facility is important for both safety and the lifestyle of local residents.
