If clothes aren’t fit for you to wear they’re not fit for anyone to wear

Respected local charity St Vincent de Paul is deeply concerned about the practice of dumping worthless clothing and other items at their charity bins.
This is a problem across all charity bins and as a result of dumping many of the bins in our local area have been removed permanently.
This is a photograph of St Vincent de Paul’s bin.

Most of the clothing and other items left were of no value and simply became a cost to St Vincent’s to dump. This detracts from their other work.
Essentially clothing that has broken zippers, holes or stains or is worn out is of no use and should be thrown in the bin. Leaving such worn out and unusable items is simply tying up the very limited resources of the volunteers who work for St Vincent de Paul.
I want to embark on a campaign to make people more aware that worn out clothing should be disposed of in the garbage and only clothing that is in wearable condition should be considered for a charity bin.
Please help our vital charity volunteers by sorting your clothing items yourself and only donating those that are in good condition to wear.
It is alarming that with very few charity bins left in our area because of dumping other charities are now indicating that they may have to cease their charity bin operation because it is costing them more in money and time to get rid of garbage than the value of what is donated to them.
I hope that we can do some community education so that people are aware that only clothes that are in good condition to wear are of any use.
