Fourth school asbestos scare is no accident

Fourth school asbestos scare is no accident

An asbestos ceiling collapsing on a science class is the fourth incident in the Mackay region is a matter of weeks.

LNP Education spokesman Bruce Flegg said the fact that four schools had experienced incidents involving the deadly substance showed the Bligh Labor Government had failed to protect students.

"Despite having six years to work this out, the Bligh Labor Government is still not taking this issue seriously.

"These asbestos scares are not accidents — they are the result of a Government turning a blind eye towards the risks and failing to properly maintain school buildings.

"It is totally unacceptable that a ceiling can collapse when a class is using the room.

"How can a school be in such bad repair that a ceiling is collapsing on students?

"Now we have another group of 20 children who have no way of knowing if they have inhaled asbestos.

"The Education Minister needs to take responsibility for his ongoing failure to protect Queensland school students."
