Back to School - Back to chaos on Moggill Road

Today’s return to school for many students in the local area has seen a return to the chaos on Moggill Road with residents reporting they take up to three-quarters of an hour to get from Karana Downs or Bellbowrie to Kenmore.
Local residents know this happens every time and underscores yet again the urgency about making a decision and getting some action on local road infrastructure for Moggill Road. It also highlights the desperate need for a large upgrade to public transport in the local area.
Many school trips could be done by public transport if we had suitable public transport. Many residents often contact me frustrated with the Government’s years of neglect in not addressing what should be a basic right and that is the right to be able to get to and from work, school, university, hospitals, airports etc, in a reasonable manner.
I heard one caller on talkback radio last week say they have sold their home to leave the area because of this problem.
Many other people have been in contact with the same story and it is wrong that people are forced out of their home because of the many years of pathetic inaction on transport.
For an area such as ours that has never asked or received a great deal from Governments this must be an ongoing campaign for something that is desperately needed and must be done.
I encourage local residents to understand that the chaos we are forced to deal with everyday is not the fault of fellow motorists, or of the police, or of others that from time to time get caught up in the anger locals so justifiably feel. It is fairly and squarely a failure to deliver even an acceptable minimum standard of road and public transport infrastructure.
Most of Brisbane’s major roads like Waterworks Road, Coronation Drive, Milton Road are Brisbane City Council roads but the responsibility for Moggill Road and Mount Crosby Road lies with the State Government. It has failed in its responsibility to make sure these roads function at an acceptable level.
Like every local resident I deal with the frustration of Moggill Road (and the Western Freeway - another State controlled road) every day and understand the anger residents are feeling.
I encourage residents to support efforts to get something done.
