Pedestrian Safety
This shouldn’t be happening in a residential area
Wednesday, 19 November 2008 14:03
Tuesday night a car lost control on Moggill Road at Bellbowrie careering into the front yard of a house and only the presence of 3 sizeable gum trees prevented the car from entering the living area of the home.
This accident happened only metres before the bus stop at Montanus Drive and had the out of control car not been brought to a halt by impact upon trees we could have seen serious injury or worse.
Ironically when the car lost control it crashed into the 70kph speed sign
Ironic because locals have been trying to get rid of the 70kph speed zone for years and have a 60kph zone in place like other residential areas.
II know that accidents can happen and cars do lose control particularly on bends and in wet conditions but the reason we have a lower limit in residential areas is because the potential consequences of this sort of event are far greater where there are homes, driveways, bus stops, pedestrians, children and local amenities.
It is the second time a car has ended up in the front yard of the same home.
Local resident, Bria Sherry recently sponsored a large petition which I presented to the State Parliament calling for a reduction in the speed limit and a safe pedestrian crossing.
I am completely stumped as to why the State Government is so stubbornly refusing to put the appropriate speed limit in place when the same Government has had a 60kph speed limit on Mount Crosby Road for many years.
I have written to the Minister again highlighting this latest event and seeking action.
Expensive hoax shows Community Frustration
Monday, 03 November 2008 14:51
Local Bellbowrie residents were surprised on Monday the 3rd November to find speed signs for 60kph in place on Moggill Road at Bellbowrie.
Sadly, instead of the Government finally having some commonsense and providing a sensible speed limit in a built up residential area it turned out that frustrated local residents had professionally printed signs pasted over the Government’s official 70kph signs.
No School Speed Zone for Kenmore – Confused? I am.

I certainly am after this response from the Government. To read the response from the Minister for Main Roads to my representations on behalf of local parents to instigate a school speed zone between Kenmore State School and Our Lady of the Rosary click here.
For the Government to say we cannot get a School Speed Zone for central Kenmore schools because Moggill Road in central Kenmore is a dual carriageway is bizarre! Has anyone from the Minister’s office ever had a look?
After years of insisting that where pedestrian crossing lights are provided for schools then the Government does not allocate school speed zones they now deny that policy.
Instead they claim that their current policy prevents school speed zones on dual carriage-ways as is the case through central Kenmore!!
In my wildest dreams I would have difficulty describing central Kenmore as being a dual carriage-way!
It is interesting the Government claim they are examining a permanent reduction of the speed limit through Kenmore but not contemplating providing a limited reduction during the peak times when schools are arriving and leaving.
Well if that has left you confused as to why our local primary schools are not permitted school speed zones when most other schools on busy roads around Brisbane are then join the club because it makes no sense to me either!
Government Response to Bellbowrie Road Safety
Tuesday, 21 October 2008 10:44
I have received a response from Main Roads Minister Pitt to my ongoing representations for a reduced speed limit and provision of a pedestrian crossing on Moggill Road at Bellbowrie.
It really is a frustrating case of “same old, same old”.
On the two important issues of the need for a pedestrian crossing the Government seems completely unwilling to listen to the warnings over many years from our local community.
Response to Grandview Road Crossing Danger
Wednesday, 15 October 2008 13:34
Local residents who supported the petition raised by Mr Dave Davis which I presented to Parliament have been given the good news and the bad news.
The Government have done a remarkable back-flip in now recommending that this intersection receive lights and a pedestrian crossing to make both pedestrians and vehicles safer.
That was the good news.
The bad news is that the Government have provided no funds nor time-frame for such works to be conducted.
