Win on Mt Crosby Road Safety
Tuesday, 23 September 2008 12:41
The intersection of Kangaroo Gully Road and Mt Crosby Road which has claimed at least one life and has been the scene of other serious accidents has been a grave concern for some time.
Regular readers will be aware that I nominated this intersection to the State Government for funding of a safety upgrade under the Safer Roads Sooner Program.
I am pleased that the Main Roads Department have informed me they will fund a safety upgrade of this intersection. I am informed that funding will be put into the current Roads Implementation Program.
There are areas of serious safety concern at quite a number of local locations.
This is one that I have been concerned about for some time.
The tendency of traffic turning right from Mt Crosby Road into Kangaroo Gully Road to drive as though they were going on a continuing road has caused significant danger for traffic outbound on Mt Crosby Road.
I observed this yet again recently myself.
I think it is a fundamental responsibility that governments do the best they can to keep people safe on roads particularly when the configuration of the road is a significant factor in producing danger to road users.
Unfortunately as with every other road issue in the local area there is always the caveat that getting a decision to fix a problem is one thing but getting the job done has all too often been a whole different ball game.
I will encourage the Government to proceed with this project as soon as practical.
They are currently designing and seeking community input into how this intersection should be configured to make it safer.
When available I will post diagrams of the proposed reconfiguration on this website.
There is a community engagement period and a number of stakeholders have been contacted for their comments.
As always for any members of our community who wish to have some input into this matter I would be only too delighted to ensure that the department receives them.
