School Speed Zone Central Kenmore

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

After years of fighting to obtain a school speed zone in central Kenmore, it appears we may be gradually winning.

The Government has indicated to me that it will allow a three month trial of a 40 kilometre an hour school speed zone in front of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School in central Kenmore. The Government has also indicated that it will consider a similar trial in front of Kenmore State School in central Kenmore.

Over the past five years we have been fobbed off on multiple occasions with a different excuse on every occasion. The Government has made statements that because there are pedestrian lights it can’t use a school speed zone or because there is a dual carriageway and the like.

I think it is a no brainer that during school times a school speed zone will alert drivers to the potential danger.  It is rare in any case that motorists could exceed 40 kilometres an hour during these intensively busy times in central Kenmore.

Local schools have a very deep concern about the safety of their students.  Parents of OLR are reported to have been quite shaken watching trucks roaring through on orange or red lights adjacent to the school.

I’m delighted we’ve made some progress.  I’ll be doing whatever I can to ensure that this becomes a permanent feature not a trial and that is also extended to Kenmore State School.
